BRIDGWATER Town face a trip into the unknown this weekend as they head to the Isle of Wight to take on Newport in the FA Vase first round.

The hosts play in the first division of the Sydenhams Wessex League - one level below Bridgwater on the pyramid - and currently sit eighth in the table.

Town are unbeaten in 12 games in all competitions and co-manager Dave Pearse is targeting success in the competition.

"The Vase and the league are our two main priorities - we want to go as far as we can," he said.

"It is an exciting draw and we've had a few different away trips in the last few years, so we are looking forward to it.

"We don't know too much about them but, the form we are in, they should be worrying about us.

"We have really upped our levels in the last two matches [victory at Frome in the Somerset Premier Cup and a 6-0 win at Bridport in the league] and it is important we keep that going into Saturday."

Aside from Jamie Laird, who is away, Town have a full squad to pick from.

Middlezoy Rovers are also in cup action this weekend, hosting Westfield in the Somerset County League Premier & First Division Cup.

In the same competition, Bridgwater Town Reserves travel to Staplegrove while, in the Division 2 & 3 Cup, Middlezoy Rovers Reserves head to Combe St Nicholas.
