Somerset Senior Cup
Second round
Middlezoy Rovers 0, Broad Plain House 1

MIDDLEZOY Rovers were back in action on Saturday after a week’s break, only to be knocked out of the Senior Cup by Broad Plain House, from the division below.

The opening exchanges were fairly scrappy as the visitors tried to rough up their opponents and put them off their game.

It took until the half-hour mark for the first real chance to come; Liam Winter linked up well with new signing Josh White, who volleyed towards the bottom corner, but somehow the visiting keeper got down to save.

In the second half, Zoy were having the majority of the possession without creating a great deal.

Their best chance came from a Dan Luce free-kick which White flicked on, only to see his effort saved.

Zoy were limiting the visitors to long-range efforts but these were forcing Greg Turner into saves, as twice he superbly tipped over at full stretch.

With penalties looming, the hosts were running out of ideas, and then, with five minutes to go, a corner was headed home by the visitors’ seven-foot centre-back.

Zoy pushed for a route back into the game, but never properly tested the keeper as they bowed out of the cup.

They host Westfield in the Premier & Division 1 Cup this Saturday (ko 3pm).
