WESTERN Storm have kick-started their 2019 Kia Super League campaign with a seven-wicket victory away to Loughborough Lightning.

Loughborough, who defeated Storm in the semi-finals last year, won the toss and opted to bat first, only to find themselves 15-3 as Freya Davies (2-24), Claire Nicholas (2-30) and new signing Deepti Sharma (1-17) all struck early.

Amy Jones hit back with 65 from 53 balls for the hosts, with support coming from Mignon du Preez (29), as Loughborough posted 126-6 from their 20 overs.

After Rachel Priest fell for 12 in the reply, England captain Heather Knight (41) and Smriti Mandhana (32) scored 54 runs for the second wicket, in just over seven overs.

Both Knight and Mandhana fell to Sarah Glenn (2-13), but Fran Wilson (33no) and Sophie Luff (4no) saw their side over the finish line.

Storm's next match is at home to Lancashire Thunder this Saturday (3pm), at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton.
