THE County Ground in Taunton is well on the way to being named the best World Cup ground in a poll conducted by the ECB.

Fans have been offered the chance to vote for their favourite host venue from the 2019 tournament, which ends on Sunday when England take on New Zealand in the final at Lord's.

The County Ground, Taunton, currently leads the way with 53% of the vote and you can place your vote for Taunton by clicking here.

Taunton hosted three matches in the tournament - Afghanistan v New Zealand, Australia v Pakistan and West Indies v Bangladesh - and each of them saw super atmospheres and high quality cricket.

Reflecting on the tournament last month, Somerset CCC chief executive Andrew Cornish said: “We had great expectations and it has exceeded those at every level.

"It has blown our minds and it couldn't have gone any better.

“This has been five years in the planning and it has been worth every minute of it

“I think how we hosted it bodes well for the future.

“We showcased Taunton - both the town and the ground - really well."

International cricket returns to the town next Thursday (July 18) when England take on Australia in the Women's Ashes Test.
