NORTH Petherton RFC Under-12s/Under-13s joined together with other junior teams from across the South West and Wales to play in the SW Beach Rugby 2019 event on Exmouth Beach, raising funds for the RNLI, Restart Rugby and The Royal Marines Charity.

It was the first time any of the boys had played beach rugby and it showed when they faced Welsh side Tenby.

Outclassed by slick handling and fast feet, Pethy were a few scores down before Charlie Isaac’s interception try, as his side lost 7-3.

A poor start cost them against Sarries, as despite a fine display from AJ McKay, a late try saw Sarries win 8-7.

Pethy went into their third game with Sidmouth all guns blazing, and McKay broke through for two decisive tries.

One win became two when Okehampton were seen off 11-8, taking them into the plate final.

A keenly-contested match right from the start saw tries coming for both teams, the pick of which saw Ben Giles break through, and the ball swept right right for Bryn Reeves to crash over.

Concerted pressure and super handling saw Pethy draw clear and win convincingly.

The club juniors have been invited back to next year’s tournament as not only was their behaviour impeccable, but the standard of rugby they produced went from strength to strength.
