SOMERSET moved up to second in Division 2 of the ECB Women's County Championship T20 Division 2 table with twin victories over Scotland and Devon at Taunton Deane CC on Sunday.

The first match, against Scotland, was a thriller which went down to the wire.

Somerset batted first and, led by captain Sophie Luff's 52 from 57 balls, posted 108-6 from their 20 overs - Emma Godman (10) was the only other batter to make double figures.

Scotland kept wickets in hand in the reply but were restricted by some tight bowling from each of Somerset's bowlers.

Lauren Filer (1-14 from three) and Lorraine Szczepanski (1-18 from four) picked up the wickets to fall as Somerset earned victory by just two runs, Scotland finishing on 106-2.

Somerset bowled first against Devon in their second match of the day and Georgia Tulip struck early, removing dangerous former Western Storm player Georgia Hennessey for a single.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as Szczepanski (2-16 from four) continued her impressive day, while there was one apiece for Nicole Richards (1-19 off four) and Tilly Bond (1-15 from two).

Tulip picked up two more to finish with 3-14 from her four overs as Devon finished on 98-7, Emma Corney top scoring with 28.

Luff (15) and Nat Wraith (12) got the reply off to a solid start, adding 33 for the first wicket before both fell in quick succession.

Richards (12) and Godman (15) made useful knocks as Somerset chipped away at the target and Jess Hazell's unbeaten 12 saw them home by four wickets with three balls to spare.

Somerset Women are next in T20 action on Sunday, June 30 when they face Worcestershire and Derbyshire at Himley CC.
