Somerset Division 1
Bishops 28, Neptune 39

BRIDGWATER Neptune travelled to Wells for their final match of the season.

Neptune cruised through the first quarter, assisted by Katie Anthony (WD) plucking interceptions out of the air with ease, to lead 8-4.

Shooters Katie Harris (GS) and Izzy Innalls (GA) hardly missed in the second quarter, calm and poised as they have been throughout the season, and at half-time Neptune led 21-13.

Bishops came bouncing out for the third quarter but were thwarted by the movement of Sally Haysham (GD) and the hassling of Emily Harwood (GK).

The hosts became frustrated and Neptune capitalised on this, with Haysham providing support to Chris Durant (C).

Ahead 33-17 going into the fourth quarter, the visitors faced some real resistance from Bishops, but the result was never in doubt thanks to a true team performance.

Somerset Division 2
Blackdown 27, Venus 29

VENUS took to the court in brilliant sunshine for their final league game, looking for revenge after losing the home fixture by two goals.

The away side stuck to their gameplan and settled quickly, with great defensive cover from Tiff Brice (WD), to take an 8-5 lead.

Blackdown clawed their way back into it in the heat, but the efforts of Kia Jenner (GK) and Georgia Howe (GD) kept their side ahead, 13-12.

Sharon Etheridge came on at GS for the second half, and going into the final quarter it was 19-19.

Beth Hayes (WA) returned to the court, and from the off Venus attacked as a team and defended strongly.

Hazel Hucker (GS) and Izzy Keane (GA) continued to work tirelessly around the attacking third, and every player gave their absolute all to secure a magnificent victory.

Somerset Division 3
Mars 45, Thorns 18

MARS had a midweek match, on a freezing cold Wednesday evening.

But the driving rain did not dampen their spirits, as they scored 12 goals to Thorns’ five in the first quarter, thanks to the skilled defensive efforts of Caitlin Howe (GK) and Amy Miller (GD).

Sophie Atyeo (C) and Sarah Gee (WA) fed the ball down to the shooters brilliantly, and the second quarter saw Mars net another 13 goals.

The third quarter brought fewer goals, but with a slight let-up in the weather, the fourth brought more aggressive centre play from Mars.

Great feeding into the circle allowed them to secure their highest scoring quarter, with another 14 goals.

Somerset Division 3
Luna 39, Jesters 21

LUNA took to the court for their final match of the season, in the beautiful sunshine against Jesters.

With a spring in their step they played the ball down the court, with great movement from all players, and soon they led 10-3.

The second quarter saw Luna work harder as Jesters upped their game, ending 19-11 going into half-time.

In the third quarter Luna had fresh legs, which gave them the upper hand and allowed the team to apply pressure (30-19).

Luna pushed until the final whistle to wrap up a fine victory.

With food and, of course, netball they celebrated their success with numerous prizes for each age group.

As they finish the season, Bridgwater look to the future to find a new budding group of enthusiastic young girls who are in years 5/6 and want to give netball a go.
