I SIT writing this from my hotel room in Brighton whilst on duty for the 2nd XI, and it’s hosing it down outside. Classic English seaside summer weather!

While on a personal note it’s frustrating to be playing 2nd XI cricket, I’m looking forward to getting back into the rhythm of playing again.

Having been in our Royal London One-Day Cup squads for most of the group games and ready to play, we kept winning and therefore the team didn’t change, which you can’t argue with.

The main downside to this week is Jack Leach’s snoring which wakes me up when rooming together! Agony!

Preparing for our Champo game against Surrey next week at the Cooper Associates County Ground is my main priority this week.

I can’t wait to get the red ball in my hands and focus on a huge game versus the champions on our own patch.

Our Royal London One-Day Cup campaign has been a success in that we have qualified for the play-off, but in a way we are disappointed not to get the home semi-final particularly having got off to a flyer in the competition.

Craig Overton and Lewis Gregory have both continued their fine starts to the season and we’ve seen some spectacular centuries from the veterans Peter Trego and Azhar Ali, as well as a dazzling ton from Tom Banton, who is already showing signs of what a special talent he is.

I feel we can still be more consistent and even better than we have shown, which bodes well.

I’m loving the support we have for the team at games and the sell out over the Easter weekend, when the sun was shining, was a fantastic atmosphere and you could really feel the positive vibe around the club and amongst the supporters.

We’re doing a lot of things well as a team and our process and skill has been very good at its best, which we must continue if we want to win a trophy.
