WEST Bower moved a step closer to becoming Bridgwater & District Sunday League Division 1 champions with a convincing win over nearest challengers Ramblers on Sunday.

The leaders hit the woodwork twice before Charlie Lintell gave them the lead, which was doubled when Corey Hucker tucked home from the spot.

Greg Turner, who was fouled for the penalty, added a third before Harry Taylor made it 4-0 on 70 minutes.

Ramblers pulled one back but West Bower had the last word through Liam Winter, whose goal wrapped up a 5-1 win.

West Bower now have a six-point lead at the summit, though Ramblers do have a game in hand.

Both are back in action on Sunday - West Bower welcome Spaxton Stags and Ramblers host Red Road Rangers.

Elsewhere, Pete Boot’s brace helped Red Road Rangers breeze past Rhode Lane Wanderers.

Fred Berry’s goal sealed a 3-0 success.

Fourth-placed Spaxton Stags drew 1-1 with bottom side Highburn Athletic and Spaxton Rangers conceded a walkover against Huntspill Crowns.

In Division 2, Josh Champion netted twice off the bench as Puriton beat Woolavington 4-2.

Guy Hunt-Davison and Mark Witchell scored the other goals as the hosts rose to third.

Pawlett Rebels dropped to fourth after losing 3-2 at Huntspill Crowns BPH, for whom Mark Chapman, Jaymie Whitehouse and Ashley Fletcher found the net.

New Foresters stay second, six points adrift of leaders North Petherton, after beating Victoria Gate Albion 4-3.

Pethy are back in action on Sunday as they head to Pawlett Rebels.
