Bodmin 40, Vivary 46

TAUNTON Vivary knew they were in for a tough match and so it proved.

Vivary went into the last quarter two goals down but kept their composure and in the last few minutes were able to dig deep and take a well-deserved win.

Special mention to Jade Barnett who shot some lovely goals on her regional debut.

TONE defeated Monmouth in a midweek inter-club fixture.

Tone 65, Claremont 59

TONE anticipated a tough game and started slowly, finding themselves trailing 6-13 at the end of the first quarter.

An exciting second quarter followed, with Tone digging deep to bring the score level at half time (20-20).

In the dying seconds of the game, GS Fee Grammer scored the equalising goal which saw the full-time score of 53-53.

Five minutes each way was then played, with Tone gaining the upper hand and storming into a 59-54 lead in the first five-minute period.

They then played some safe and steady netball which saw them clinch the win and make their way through to the next round.

Monmouth 36, Harlequins 38

BOTH teams started well but it was Purnell Harlequins that took the early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead.

Similar play in the second quarter saw lots of turnovers and goal for goal action, ending 18-21 to Harlequins.

Monmouth fought hard scoring goal after goal to take the lead and end the third quarter 28-27.

It was goal for goal for the majority of the final quarter but Harlequins edged through.

Priory 60, Kingfishers 13

PRIORY started well in the first quarter against their opponents from Keinton and won it 17-2.

The second quarter saw Priory’s momentum continue with excellent passing down the court and by half time their lead was up to 29-6.

Priory maintained this during the third and fourth quarters with consistency in passing, accurate shooting and excellent turnovers.

Blackdown 41, Chalice 27

CHALICE took an early lead but, by the end of the second quarter, Blackdown turned it round to lead 19-16.

Blackdown made great interceptions and accurate passes and stormed their way to a win.

Brendon 24, Jesters 35

PURNELL Jesters were a well-rehearsed team with some very tight marking.

Their defence kept Brendon’s shooters from getting too close to the post.

Brendon still managed to hold their own and were only trailing by four goals at half-time.

Some great defensive work from Brendon throughout the court and good interceptions in their defensive third; a frustrating but hard-fought game.

Team Bath 53, Galmington 43

GALMINGTON made their second trip to Bath in two weeks, and although they started well, the hosts began to get on top and by half time they led 32-16.

The third quarter saw Galmington make sweeping changes to their line-up, and it was their best quarter of the match, allowing them to close the gap.

Team Bath settled in the final period, though, and saw out the win by 10 goals.

Queensway 57, Venus 20

GALMINGTON Queensway progressed into the next round of the cup after seeing off Bridgwater Venus.

Queensway made a strong start at Taunton Vale, ending the first quarter 15-3 ahead, and taking a 30-6 lead into the second half.

Venus fought gamely, reaching 20 goals by the end of the match, but still the hosts secured comfortable passage in the competition.

NEWBARN also progressed in the cup, proving far too good for Thorns.

New team member Tracey Day stepped into the GA position and combined superbly with the ever-reliable Sophie Anderson.

Comeytrowe 29, Aldon 28

COMEYTROWE had a tough start against Aldon, losing captain Sarah to injury and falling 9-4 behind.

But after a few changes and some fantastic interceptions, they levelled the game at 16-16.

Aldon inched ahead again, 23-21, going into the final quarter, but with great support on and off the court it was the Galmington side who controlled the final stages and pinched it 29-28.

Parkfield 37, Sapphires 52

GALMINGTON Parkfield faced Sydenham side Sapphires, from the division above, and went out after a good contest.

Every Parkfield player worked tirelessly, not least Jodie Reading at both WD and GD.
