South West 1 West
North Petherton 0, Keynsham 21

NORTH Petherton slipped down to ninth place in the South West 1 West standings, after losing at home to mid-table rivals Keynsham on Saturday.

In tough conditions, much of the play came down to the forwards, and it was the visiting pack which had the upper hand in the set-piece.

Keynsham led 6-0 at half time, courtesy of two Sam Challenger penalties, and he went on to score two tries, a conversion and another penalty after the break to end the game as the only player on the scoresheet.

The result saw Pethy leapfrogged by both Keynsham and Thornbury, and their next match – on Saturday, January 5 – is a tough one, away to league leaders Launceston.

NORTH Petherton’s 2nds XV remain third in Somerset 1, after a 10-10 draw away to sixth-placed Cheddar Valley on Saturday.

Pethy are back in action on January 5, at home to south Somerset side Crewkerne.

Bridgwater & Albion 2nds’ Somerset 1 match with Stothert & Pitt was called off, and will now take place on February 2.

Albion’s 3rd XV were once again unable to raise a side for the trip to Weston-super-Mare 4ths, giving the home side a walkover win.

Albion are now on -24 points at the bottom of Somerset 2 South.
