BRIDGWATER Town player-manager Dave Pearse is looking to freshen up his squad with the arrival of a couple of new players in time for this Saturday’s crunch match with Willand Rovers at Fairfax Park.

The Robins let a 2-1 half-time lead slip at Buckland Athletic at the weekend, the hosts running out 5-3 winners, and Pearse admitted his side were “bullied” in the second half.

“We fell to pieces after the break,” Pearse said.

“We dropped far too deep and no-one really took the game by the scruff of the neck. We ran out of ideas.

“Our work in possession was wasteful and the better teams in this league will punish you.

“It was a bad day at the office but we will put that behind us and move on ahead of what is a massive game on Saturday.”

Ahead of the meeting with third-placed Willand, Pearse hopes that a few more players can be brought on board.

He said: “We are hoping to bring in one or two this week as a few of our big players are out and I’d like to freshen the squad up to keep everyone on their toes.”

One of the new arrivals is expected to be a midfielder to cover for the continued absence of Mike Duffy, who underwent an operation on his knee on Monday; defenders Josh White and Mark Armstrong are also unavailable this weekend.

Pearse, meanwhile, will miss the next three matches having decided not to appeal his red card in last Saturday’s 5-3 win at Roman Glass St George.

Bridgwater Town Reserves 3, Uphill Castle 2

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves stayed top of the table after an entertaining win over Uphill Castle.

The visitors spurned a glorious chance to take the lead when a penalty was saved by James Annison, and Town made them pay when Josh Champion tapped home to break the deadlock.

Cameron Birch doubled the lead in the second half before Uphill pulled one back through former Bridgwater midfielder Will Sneddon-Coombes.

Jamie Moss struck to make the points safe, though the visitors netted a consolation late on.

Town head to seventh-placed Somerton Town on Saturday (2pm).
