Buckland Athletic 5, Bridgwater Town 3

BRIDGWATER Town were involved in another goalfest on Saturday, though this time they were on the wrong end of the scoreline as Buckland Athletic won an eight-goal thriller.

Town flew out the traps and were ahead inside two minutes as top goalscorer Jack Taylor cut inside and finished neatly past the goalkeeper.

Both sides saw goals disallowed for offside and Buckland drew level six minutes before the break, Richard Groves slotting home from the penalty spot after a foul by Town centre-half Tom Ellis.

That was not the end of the first half action, as the Robins restored their advantage in stoppage time when Ian Bellinger's free-kick was headed home by Jake Brown.

It was to be the last time Bridgy led in the match as the hosts surged forward in the second half, levelling on the hour through Chris McPhee before substitute Jordan Ewing netted from close range to put Buckland in front.

Poor defending saw James Richards add a fourth to put the result beyond doubt with eight minutes remaining, and Groves then scored his second in injury time.

Town had the last word when Craig Allan netted a consolation with the last action of the match, but the visitors were left to rue their first league defeat since September.

Westbury United and Willand Rovers both won to cut Bridgy's lead at the top of the table down to a point - Westbury have four games in hand over the Robins.

Town have a crunch match next Saturday as third-placed Willand visit Fairfax Park.
