Jupiter 38, Gems 50

SYDENHAM Gems had a tough start against local rivals Jupiter, who came out fighting.

After being behind by three goals at half time, however, Gems took control of the game.

Great movement and accurate shooting from Nicola Hale and Hannah Clapp allowed Gems to take the lead.

Timely rebounds, interceptions and support from Kerry Fellows, Rheanne Lee and Amy Burley allowed Gems to maintain their lead and seal victory.

Swans 59, Sapphires 32

A DAMP, miserable morning saw the Swans pull off a convincing win after taking a nine-goal lead early on.

The hosts’ accurate shooting allowed them to stretch their lead despite a Sapphires comeback in the final quarter.

Bishops 49, Rubies 18

GREAT interceptions from Steph Gibson and Anna Jenkins provided Tanisha Birch and Shell Jenkins the chance to capitalise on turnover balls.

But Bishops’ accuracy was telling, as they claimed victory.

Canons 32, Emeralds 28

EMERALDS started out strongly, with great interceptions from Jessie Venning and Angel Finka, to frustrate Canons.

Hannah Wallis and Hollie Davies were on fine form, helping Emeralds to finish the second quarter with 11 goals.

Accurate shooting from Rhiannon Crabtree and Charlie Webb gave Emeralds 10 more goals in the next quarter but they fell just short at the end.

Jupiter 38, Gems 50

BRIDGWATER Jupiter came out with determination, with player of the match Lisa Lukins (GD) and Sarah Edwards (GS) to the fore, giving them an 11-8 lead in the first quarter.

With accurate passing by Holly Filkins (C) and Amy Portlock (WA), they increased their lead by 10.

However, Gems fought back with a change of shooter, and finished the quarter with the same margin as the first, 24-21.

Jupiter allowed Gems to take control of the game and take a 36-29 lead into the final quarter.

Strong drives by Emma Reynolds (C) saw the ball passed with conviction into the Jupiter shooters, but it was not enough to catch Gems.

Abbey 48, Saturn 48

SATURN came out all guns blazing in the first quarter, with Katy Cheese putting Abbey on their toes.

Despite Amy Portlock (C) continuing her good form, Saturn were three down at half time.

In the second half Saturn switched a few players around and reduced the deficit to two going into the final quarter.

It fell down to the final whistle on a penalty shot for Abbey, which they failed to convert, ending the game in a draw.

Avalon 40, Neptune 27

NEPTUNE opened strongly against leaders Avalon, with Sally Haysham (GD) working hard in defence, and the quarter ended 10-10.

Avalon increased the pressure and took a half-time lead of 20-15.

Izzy Keane, at GA, found space in the circle while Katie Anthony (C) and Hannah Sayer (WD) interrupted Avalon’s flow, but Neptune entered the final quarter seven down.

Despite Neptune’s best efforts, Avalon pushed on to ensure victory.

Venus 29, Chalice 44

VENUS started well, with shooters Hazel Hucker and Alicia Clapp converting well.

After an even first quarter, Chalice took advantage of slack play to take a 32-18 lead.

Venus knew they had to up their game, and the previous quarter’s top score was beaten again in a great team effort.

Luna 28, Thorns 60

LUNA’s Sharon Ethridge (GS) and Cerys Ethridge (GA) began well, ending the first quarter 13-5 down.

They doubled their goals scored in the second, but Thorns turned up the pressure to take a commanding lead into the final quarter.

With Aiste Mockeliunaite (C) and Gail Cornish (GA) having a strong finish, Luna put away 16 goals.

Bridgwater Under-14s took on Taunton A, and held on at the end to claim an 18-17 victory.

The Under-14s B took on Paulton B and raced away to a 33-9 win.

Bridgwater U12 A beat Yeovil 14-8, while the U12 Bs lost 9-0 to Tor.

Finally, Bridgwater U16s produced a fantastic performance to beat Tor 39-26.
