West Clubs Women’s League
Sedgemoor Division 1
Burnham-on-Sea 1, Minehead 6

BURNHAM Ladies are really struggling with their confidence at the moment, as they suffered another heavy defeat last Saturday, to league leaders Minehead.

This is despite being the better team for the first 20 minutes, as they created a number of good opportunities, which should have seen them ahead at half time instead of the visitors.

They passed the ball well and looked very impressive, especially down the right hand side where Emma Ballard, Ellie Bishop and Kerry Harvey were magnificent.

Harvey and Amy Edmundson had chances which were saved, as was Sarah Johnson’s flick from a short corner.

In fact, it was Burnham who gifted Minehead their first two goals as they went in 2-0 down at the interval.

They then conceded a flick early in the second half and their confidence just seemed to drain away.

Ballard defended heroically as both she and goalkeeper Nicki Glanville did their best to keep Minehead at bay.

Jem Johnson and Ali Evely combined well together down the left but, as Burnham pushed on looking for a breakthrough and a way back into the match, Minehead looked like scoring every time they attacked – which they did!

Burnham conceded another three but scored a consolation towards the end through Edmundson.

Carly Bush fired a quick free hit from the halfway line through to Edmundson, who had pulled away to the left, and she cracked home a shot from what seemed like an impossible angle.

Player of the match: Ellie Bishop, Kerry Harvey & Emma Ballard

Burnham travel to Winscombe this coming Saturday (10am start).

Training continues on Mondays from 7-9pm at King Alfred School.
