Les Phillips Cup - first round

Welton Rovers 1, Bridgwater Town 3

THREE first-half goals helped Bridgwater Town avoid a Les Phillips Cup banana skin as the Robins eased past Welton Rovers on Tuesday night.

The hosts are going well in the Western League First Division but the Robins were quick out the blocks, taking the lead on 16 minutes when player-manager Dave Pearse rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home.

Two goals in three minutes shortly before the interval then put Town further in the driving seat, as Jake Brown and Jack Taylor found the net.

Welton pulled one back just after the hour but there was little goalmouth action in the closing stages as Town secured comfortable progress.

Next up for Bridgwater is a trip to Brislington on Saturday (3pm).

Bridgwater Town: Jake Viney, Dave Thorne, Tom Ellis, Josh White (Lee Begg 80), Jake Llewellyn, Jake Brown (Charlie Brown 71), Harry Hamblin, Sam Towler, Harry Horton (C Birch 85), Dave Pearse, Jack Taylor
