JUPITER started slowly and were trailing by six goals without answer within the first few minutes.

They and strong passing between Emma Reynolds (WA) and Kia Jenner (GA) fought to finish the first quarter trailing 9-17.

Despite the best efforts by GK Eve Jenner, Knights pulled away to 18-35 at half-time.

In the final quarter, player of the match Maddie Kennard, who shot with accuracy all game, but was unable to secure that all important point.

Saturn 33, Claremont 38

SATURN started strongly and took an early 9-6 lead thanks to good play from Katy Cheese.

Claremont came back fighting but Imma Matcham held them at bay with a series of tips and interceptions.

They did, however, take a 30-23 lead into the final quarter and clawed back some of the deficit thanks to excellent attacking play from Amy Portlock.

Parkfield 51, Neptune 35

NEPTUNE's match at Parkfield was a game of two halves after good play by Katie Anthony (WD), Chris Durant (C) and Hannah Sayer (WA), assisted by accurate shooting by Katie Harris (GS) and Izzy Innalls (GA) kept them in touch.

Parkfield stepped up their game in the second half and pulled ahead to take the points.

Newbarn 68, Venus 16

VENUS suffered as Newbarn made a blistering start in the October sunshine to take a 16-3 lead.

Goals were hard to come by throughout, despite Venus' best efforts as Newbarn forged ahead.

They will hope to turn the tide on home ground.

Mars 43, Comeytrowe 43

AFTER suffering a heavy defeat against Comeytrowe earlier in the season, Mars were determined to give a better account of themselves and it was clear in the opening quarter that this would be a different game.

Pinpoint passes from wing attack Chris Shaw were consistently converted by Becky Kennard (GS), keeping the team in contention.

Outstanding defence from Amy Miller (GK) and goal defence Amy Kemmish turned the match Mars’ way in the third quarter as the team turned a three-goal deficit into into a three-goal lead.

Comeytrowe rallied and retook the lead but the introduction of Kate Bancroft tipped the scales again and the game ended in a well-deserved draw.

Luna 48, Highfield 24

LUNA were 6-1 down after a slow start but rallied to finish the quarter 10-8 up.

The second quarter saw Luna's best play with Alison Saunders (WA), Gail Cornish (C) and the shooters Sharon Ethridge (GS) and Michaela Hoppins (GA) with a brilliant 20 goals, to go 30-14 up.

Great defence by Sarah Keene (WD), Rebecca Dunn (GD) and Gemma Malone (GK) kept the pressure on Highfield to ensure victory.

Sydenham Gems 40, Cornwall Storm 60
 

GEMS were against a strong Cornwall Storm side but good play in the centre with Karis and Helen bringing down to Justine and Hannah kept them in touch at 12-9.

Storm extended their lead in the second quarter despite great interceptions from Beth Fella but Gems held on with Kerry Fellows, Rheanne Lee and Carly Martin being introduced.

They brought the deficit back to 46-30 going into the final quarter but Storm’s shooters were scoring every time they shot, making it impossible to reduce the margin.

Abbey 36, Sapphires 35

SAPPHIRES travelled to Street to face Abbey and after a slow start pulled the score back to 28-29 by the end of the third quarter.

Despite some great shooting in the last quarter, Sapphires ended the match just one goal adrift.

Avalon 69, Sydenham Rubies 36

RUBIES travelled to Street and took time to get into the game.

Trailing after the first quarter, Rubies started to edge back through Katie Hill and Lilly Paul.

After a good team talk at half-time, Rubies took the third quarter with excellent shooting from Shell Jenkins and Laura Coombes.

Unfortunately, Rubies the comeback too late and were well beaten in the end.

Chalice 71, Emeralds 18

EMERALDS fought their way through the first quarter but were 19-7 down after the first quarter.

Trailing at half-time, Emeralds came back strongly with amazing shots from GA Rhiannon and GS Flora and they kept playing into the final quarter with lovely movement around the court from WA Jessie.
