Somerset Premier Cup
Bridgwater Town 2, Wells City 1

BRIDGWATER Town side came from behind to beat Wells City on Wednesday night, securing progress in the Somerset Premier Cup.

The Robins made several changes, particularly in defence, and they found themselves behind on 14 minutes - Daniel Williams converting from the penalty spot.

There was almost an instant response, Mike Duffy's shot from Ian Bellinger's pull-back being cleared off the line, but the hosts were showing few other signs of mounting a comeback.

Lewis Hembery's cross-shot was almost spilled into his own net by the Wells keeper, but it remained 1-0 to the away side at half time.

The Robins should have been level three minutes after the break, Duffy picking out Jake Brown, who hit the crossbar from five yards out.

But it was 1-1 on the hour mark, Bellinger crossing for Harry Horton, whose shot was blocked, and although Jack Taylor's follow-up was well saved, Bellinger found the net with an acrobatic effort from a tight angle.

The winner came on 83 minutes, Brown giving the full-back twisted blood before laying the ball across for Taylor to tap in.

Wells could not rouse themselves to hit back, and so it's Bridgwater who progress to the next round.

This Saturday sees the Robins travel to take on Shepton Mallet in their next league encounter (ko 3pm).
