BRIDGWATER gymnast Laura Gallagher has come away from the prestigious FIG Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT World Cup event in Loule, Portugal, with a bronze medal.

The event saw a world class field compete for medals in the final competition ahead of the World Championships next month.

The trampoline field was packed with top gymnasts all vying to claim podium places in their final preparations before travelling to Russia.

Gallagher competed two solid routines in the preliminary round, and therefore was GB’s only representative in the final eight.

Competing first in the final, with all previous scores zeroed, Gallagher held her nerve to post a final score of 54.520.

That gave her the bronze medal, her first in a World Cup, behind Canadian double Olympic champion Rosie MacLennan (silver) and Xueying Zhu of China (gold).

Gallagher said: “I am very happy to have won a bronze medal in the last World Cup of the series and share the podium with such amazing gymnasts.

"I am now look forward to the World Championships in four weeks.

"I would like to thank my coach Sue Bramble, my club Quayside, Tracy Whittaker- Smith, my team-mates, British Gymnastics and Causeway for their support.”
