Withycombe Under-13s 50,
North Petherton Under-13s 10

NORTH Petherton Under-13 boys, The Mighty Oaks, opened their season in Devon with a fantastic display of selfless commitment, determination and courage.

Missing a few key players, they travelled to Withycombe RFC, near Exmouth, where both sides showed a good level of skills.

The hosts scored first, before Lewis Frost took a quick free-kick to himself and drove over the line almost unopposed.

After losing three more players to injury in the first quarter, instead of losing heart, the Mighty Oaks showed a lot of determination, with Always played within the spirit of the game, There was some ferocious (but fair) tackling, particularly from Corey Cole who had the highest tackle count of the day.

The Mighty Oaks were extremely competitive at the breakdown, and made many a successful offloads that kept the ball away from

Withycombe’s stronger pack for long periods but when Withy got their hands on the ball, they would finish with a score.

Another quick tap from Ben Cornish in the last few minutes ended up with him flying down the wing to score an excellent solo try before Withycombe could reorganise.

North Petherton’s player of the day Fin Turner said: “That was the best match I have played in with this team. We showed a character and determination that we lacked at times last year.

“Our new Mighty Oaks, Josh Stuckey, Hamish Braine-Clarke, and Alex Palmer fitted in brilliantly; we cannot wait for next against Tor at home.”

The next game is at Beggars Brook against Tor this Sunday.
North Petherton Minis and Juniors are always looking for new players (age 5-18) with any experience and or ability.

NORTH Petherton's Mini Section visited were hosted by Cullompton RFC for games from Under-7s through to Under-12s.

With differing rules from U7s, who play tag rugby, to U12s who tackle, ruck and maul, all games were keenly contested by both teams.

With the warm weather and firm grounds there was a lot of fast running rugby, the players taking advantage of the favourable conditions.

The U12s was a physical game with both teams playing their first games of the season under their new age group rules that include five-man scrums, although at this stage they do not push.

Both teams demonstrated good skill sets with a number of tries from both sides.

North Petherton’ scorers were Aden Coker, Jamie Hill, AJ MacKay, Toby Hallet and man of the match Harvey Le Matre.

Next week all mini teams are at Beggars Brook for training; new players (age 5-16) are welcome.
