GOAL-HUNGRY Bridgwater Town face a tough test this weekend as they head to fellow high-flyers Clevedon Town.

The Western League Premier table-toppers have scored more goals than any other team in the country at Step 5, helped by last weekend's convincing 6-2 win at home to Bradford Town.

Reflecting on that result, Robins boss Dave Pearse said: "We needed a response from the Vase [3-0 defeat at Exmouth] and we certainly got that.

“We were brilliant, from warm-up right up until the final whistle.

“They are a good side who will be in and around the top six this season, but what is pleasing from our point of view is that I don’t think we really got out of third gear and we scored six.

“The challenge now is to be more consistent and turn this into a run.

“Every outfield player has scored this season now, and Jack [Taylor] is still scoring as well, so it’s all good at the moment,” he said.

“All our midfielders scored on Saturday and Sam [Towler] was excellent.

“He has been good since coming in - he hasn’t had much impact in a couple of games, but when he’s on form he is very good and he was superb on Saturday.

“We have scored more goals than anyone else in the country at Step 5, so long may that continue.”

Town's trip to fourth-placed Clevedon means an instant reunion with former utility man Syd Camper.

“Syd has moved on to Clevedon for a couple of reasons,” Pearse said.

“He wanted to play more regularly and he also runs the Weston Under-18s side - their training clashes with ours, so he couldn’t commit to both.

“Clevedon are a good side but, if we play like we did on Saturday, I’m confident we can earn the three points.”

Bridgwater Town Reserves are also top of the table, and they host fourth-placed Saltford in Division 1 of the Somerset County League on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Middlezoy Rovers - currently sat in the bottom three after one win in their opening four matches - travel to Clutton.

Zoy's reserves are at Congresbury in Division 3.
