Toolstation Western League
Premier Division
Bridgwater Town 0, Plymouth Parkway 1

BRIDGWATER Town suffered their first league defeat of the season on Tuesday night, as Plymouth Parkway came away from Fairfax Park with the points thanks to a late penalty.

The Robins had scored 14 goals in their last two games, while Parkway are considered the favourites to win the division, but defences were on top in what was an extremely tight game.

There were few chances in the first period, Shane Krac being denied by home goalkeeper Jake Viney's smart save, while Lee Begg and Sam Towler sent efforts over the bar at the other end.

Six minutes after half time, the chance of a breakthrough improved when the away side were reduced to 10 men, Rob Farkins being sent off for a second yellow after clashing with Harry Horton.

Yet, for all the Robins' play being slicker than their opponents', they failed to create much in the way of chances.

Just as the game looked to be drifting towards a stalemate, with a point apiece probably the fairest result, disaster struck for the hosts in the 87th minute.

Kurt Robinson looked to clear the ball from the box, only to make contact with Stewart Yetton as he followed through.

It looked soft in the extreme, but Yetton accepted the gift, sending Jake Viney the wrong way from the spot.

Still there was time for Jack Taylor to hit the post with a header and Dave Thorne to be denied by keeper Kyle Moore, but the spoils went to the visitors.

Bridgwater Town: Jake Viney, Dave Thorne, Kurt Robinson, Lee Begg, Tom Ellis, Mike Duffy (Ian Bellinger 88), Sam Towler, Harry Horton (Mark Armstrong 85), Jake Brown, Jake Llewellyn, Jack Taylor.
Attendance: 298

Next up for Bridgwater is an away trip to Hengrove Athletic this coming Saturday (ko 3pm).
