Bridgwater Town 6, Brislington 0

JACK Taylor's remarkable five-goal haul led Bridgwater Town to a crushing win over Brislington at Fairfax Park on Saturday.

Dave Thorne also netted as the side who had beaten the Robins home and away in the league last season were swatted aside, and ended the game with 10 men.

The first 20 minutes were uneventful, the hosts being restricted to long-range shots, but then Bridgwater upped their game - both Jake Llewellyn and Harry Horton having efforts saved by goalkeeper Chris Blammon.

The pressure brought its reward on 33 minutes, as Taylor picked up the loose ball, and although his first shot was saved, he slammed in the rebound.

It was 2-0 on the stroke of half time, Taylor again with the goal, and again at the second time of asking, after Tom Ellis delivered the ball to the back post.

Thorne all but killed off the game as a contest three minutes into the second half, meeting Kurt Robinson's cross and sending the ball into the top corner with his left foot.

Taylor was denied from a free-kick, Blammon saving well, but from the corner Taylor headed in to complete his hat-trick and make it 4-0 on 53 minutes.

The points secure, the Robins were content to keep possession, a task made easier by Brislington's Connor Biggins receiving a red card for a poor tackle, with 20 minutes left.

That left just enough time for Taylor to help himself to two more goals, the first on 79 minutes, when a loose ball dropped for him to fire home.

His fifth - Bridgwater's sixth - came in stoppage time, as he went through one-on-one with Blammon and showed the composure Robins fans have come to expect in finding the net.

The big win sees the hosts sitting third in the Premier Division table; they go to Chipping Sodbury Town next Saturday (ko 3pm).
