ALEX Clapp is the new Club Champion at Enmore Park.

He won the 36-hole event on Sunday with gross rounds of 70 and 76 in wet and windy conditions.

Nett winner was Paul Manley with a nett 74 and 70.

Ryan Brewer won the King Cup (flag comp) with a gross 66 nett 64 which meant he had seven spare shots he used to complete the second hole

With Martyn Westbury in very good form, he and Mike Rossiter were five up in Enmore’s Avalon Seniors’ match at Stockwood Vale before the hosts gradually worked their way back.

In the end, the Enmore men hung on for a 2&1 win.

Meanwhile, Rob Fear and Jeff Saunders had a comfortable win in match two and things were looking good.

However, the other three pairs did not fair so well and Stockwood ran out 3-2 winners.

There is a break now in Enmore’s fixtures and qualification for the semi-finals will hinge on their two away games at Tall Pines and Taunton & Pickeridge on August 13 and 16.

Enmore Park Seniors made the longish trip to the north Devon links course of the Saunton club and, as expected on totally different terrain from their usual parkland conditions, came away second best by 5½-2½.

Highlight of the match from an Enmore view was the fantastic win by Doug Read and the in-form Peter Scott 8&7.

The other Enmore pairing to register a win was Iain Stewart with Mike Sullivan 1 up.

Captain Graham Pain with partner David Pascoe registered a half.

On perhaps the hottest day of 2018 so far, Enmore Park Seniors travelled to the Bristol suburb of Henbury for a contest on a similar course to home conditions.

Unfortunately, the home team could read the excellently prepared greens far better than the visitors and came in with a comfortable 5½-2½ victory.

Once again, Peter Scott with Iain Stewart had a fine win 5&4, while captain Graham Pain and Kevin Lewis won 4&3, and Steve Lukins with Jim McGukin gained a half .

Judy Hancock is the new Ladies’ Club Champion, winning the Biddiscombe Trophy for the fifth time with her first win way back in 1985.

Runner-up was Julie Blumgart, who won best 36-hole nett thanks to an afternoon nett 70.

Janet Hambly won the Brown Trophy for best 18-hole nett with a 73, beating Joanne Wyatt and Nanette Moore on countback.
