MIDDLEZOY Rovers proved too strong for Burnham United in their pre-season friendly meeting last Tuesday.

The sides went into the half-time break level at 1-1, but Zoy moved up through the gears in the second half to win 5-1.

Adam Long, Scott Peters, Andrew Smith, Jed Williams and Charlie Lintell all got on the scoresheet for the visitors; Jack Cherry netted for Burnham.

Tonight (ko 7.30pm) sees Middlezoy host Wincanton Town on the Bridgwater College Academy 3G pitch.

BRIDGWATER Town had been due to host Street on Saturday, but the work done to the Fairfax Park pitch this summer meant this was not possible.

Therefore the match was switched to Street’s Tannery Ground, and the home side – now a Southern League club – won 3-0, with goals from Ed Butcher (2) and Steve Murray.

The Robins’ team included Sam Towler, a target for Bridgwater when at Wellington last season, and a player who had moved to Tiverton Town this summer to try his luck at Southern League level.

Bridgwater line-up: Jake Viney, Kurt Robinson (Syd Camper 54), Lee Begg, Dave Thorne (Charlie White 66), Jake Llewellyn, Harry Horton, Mike Duffy (Harry Hamblin 66), Sam Towler (Alex Twiggs 66), Jack Taylor, Ian Bellinger (Dave Pearse 54).

Bridgwater continue their build-up to the August 4 kick-off with a friendly away to Bristol Manor Farm tonight (ko 7.45pm).

Also tonight, Bridgwater Town Reserves face Bridgwater Sports at Bridgwater & Taunton College (7pm).
