ENMORE Park's Royals hosted Minehead and gained sweet revenge after a previous loss in the away fixture.

The home team, led by Paul Martyn, secured a convincing 8½-1½ victory.

Perfect weather meant high scores in Monday’s fourball betterball, and there was a three-way tie at the top on 44 points.

Colin Scobie and Justin Hooper won on countback from Darren Hill and John Richardson, with David Ballantine and Daniel Pester in third.

Seventy players attended the Club Night on Tuesday, and the format was the best two scores to count.

The team of C. Wright, A. Wright and A. Clapp were the winners with a score of 84, three ahead of M. Clapp, G. Cook and D. Winn in second, with D. Brown, D. Short and C. Marsh one further shot back in third.

Shanni Whisler and Jill Simpson partnered up to win the Ladies PING betterball.

Enmore Park’s Seniors Avalon League team looked like they were heading for a whitewash over Tall Pines in their first home game.

With wins secured by Marsh & Fear, Martin & Clapp and Hodge & Whisler, Mike Rossiter’s birdie on the 18th put the hosts in a commanding position, completing victory with partner Martyn Westbury.

However, Tall Pines’ Muddigan & Hewlett clawed themselves back from four down against Acland & Hawley to rescue a half.

The Seniors then welcomed long-standing opponents from Wells.

Enmore started slowly but the middle order pairings all came good, as did the final pair giving Enmore a pleasing win by 4½ to 2½.

Enmore’s point-winning pairings were Graham Pain with Peter Robinson (3 & 2), Tony Pomeroy with Roger Anniss (3 & 2), Peter Farnell with Chris Willsteed (2 & 1), Ray Lukeski with John Newell (2 & 1), while Chris Topps and Tim Smith gained the valuable half point.

On Thursday, the Seniors travelled to Clevedon and halved the match.

Enmore’s winning pairings were John Newell with Kevin Davies (5 & 4), Mike Sullivan with Roger Anniss (4 & 2), Doug Read with Kelvin Tuthill (1 up), while Kevin Lewis with Tim Smith and Jim McGuckin with Peter Scott both gained important halfs.

Enmore Park Ladies recorded a comprehensive victory over their near neighbours Cannington in the first round of the Rogers Cup, winning all seven of their games.

Meanwhile, Enmore Park member Hannah Woodley was the winner of the Somerset Ladies County Golf Association Championships at Weston-super-Mare GC over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Woodley hails from Taunton and earlier in her career she spent two years at the Richard Huish Golf Academy.

The conditions at Weston were perfect on Friday as 25 competitors took part, playing 36 holes.

The top 16 gross qualified for the Championship knockouts, and the next eight for the Phillips knockout on Saturday and Sunday.

The final of the championship was played between Woodley and Aimee Sawyer (The Mendip), and it was a very close affair until the tide began to turn on the 15th hole.

Woodley secured victory on the 17th to retain the championship title for 2018, the fourth time she has won in five years.

She has won the SLCGA championship on four previous occasions, one of which was when she set a new course record of 70 for a lady amateur on her home course of Enmore Park.

After the presentation of trophies by SLCGA president Amanda Mayne, the squad for the county team was named, which included Woodley and Gill Brown, who plays at Burnham and Berrow.
