BRIDGWATER Town will travel to Farnham Town in the second round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase after a second straight extra-time win in the competition, this time at Wessex League side Bashley.

The decisive goal in the 3-2 win came from Harry Horton, last season’s captain, who returned on a dual-registration with Tiverton Town on Friday.

Following the match, Bridgwater co-manager Dave Pearse said: “It was a very good performance in horrific conditions on a heavy pitch.

“Our gameplan was to go against the wind in the first half and get to 0-0, which we did, but then we gave away a penalty early in the second.

“We then had a stroke of luck with the own goal and should have seen it out once we went 2-1 up, but we ground it out really well in extra time.”

On Horton's arrival, Pearse said: “Harry’s a quality player who wasn’t getting many minutes at Tiverton.

“He’s a popular figure around the club and, as a local lad, it’s important to have players like him in the team.

“I think he will be available for us for the foreseeable future.”

The draw for the next round has handed Bridgwater another lengthy away trip, this time a 200-mile round trip to Surrey, where they will take on Farnham Town of the Combined Counties Premier Division.

“We’ll go into it with the same attitude as we did at Bashley,” Pearse said.

“So far it has suited us playing away from home, and we look forward to the challenge - I’d rather have a draw like that than play someone from our league.”
