Somerset County League Division 1 West

Middlezoy Rovers 2 Wells City Res 2

MIDDLEZOY maintained their eleven point lead at the top of the division, but will be a little disappointed to have given away a two goal half-time lead in this one.

An early Dan Luce strike and an own goal had the hosts in control at the break, but a quick-fire Wells double saw them take home a point.

The visitors had the first chance of the afternoon, Ryan Pledger hitting the post with an early header, which seemed to kickstart Middlezoy into life.

Dan Luce opened the scoring on 12 minutes with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, after his initial effort was blocked.

Alex Clapp's long free kick was then headed into the net on 24 minutes by a back-pedalling Wells defender as the hosts started to dominate the game.

Middlezoy will then rue missed chances as the ended the first half the stronger of the two teams, but were unable to find a third.

Wells pulled one back on 51 minutes when a corner was bundled home from close range by Ross Padfield and the comeback was complete three minutes later when Dan Catley's header crept in at the near post past the diving Greg Turner.

Craig Wright's late effort was ruled out for offside by the visiting assistant's late flag.

Middlezoy remain unbeaten and stay eleven points clear of Wells at the top of the division, with a further gap to Glastonbury in third who lost at Ilminster.
