Somerset County Division One West
Weston St Johns 0, Middlezoy Rovers 2
MIDDLEZOY Rovers won by the same score line for the third consecutive week, against a determined and very defensive St Johns side, thanks to second half strikes from Dan Luce and Shaun Turner.
The visitors began the game with a high tempo, but struggled to break through a resolute home defence.
Craig Wright had the first chance of note, but his shot from a tight angle rattled the home crossbar on 15 minutes. Jamie Temlett wasted two half-chances shooting high and wide on both occasions from distance.
After the break, Dan Luce took matters into his own hands with a terrific solo run and finish across the keeper for the opener.
Centre back Alex Clapp went close to doubling the advantage but his header found the crossbar with Middlezoy in total control.
A Dan Luce corner on the hour found Shaun Turner at the back post who directed his header past Mark Fursland in the Weston St Johns goal.
The home side then began to throw bodies forward and Middlezoy keeper Greg Turner did well to keep his concentration after spectating for most of the game with two decent saves in quick succession.
Middlezoy head into next week's Senior Cup quarter final at Timsbury on the back of three important wins, keeping their promotion challenge on course.
Team: GTurner, Lintell, Clapp, ShTurner, ScTurner, Cann, Luce, Smith, Whaites, Temlett, Wright (Cushing).
