THE seniors’ Winter League at Enmore Park has moved to the matchplay knockout stages with the top eight pairs from the league.
The Curtis and Hancock pairing topped the qualifying round with a perfect ten wins.
Enmore Park Golf Club Seniors began their 2015 season with the first of four ‘Winter Warmers’ away to their Minehead counterparts.
On a cold, wintry day on the exposed coastal course, the home team just prevailed with a win by 4.5 matches to 3.5.
Enmore’s points were gained by incoming captain Mike Perry, partnered by outgoing captain John Newell, by 2 and 1.
Graham Pain, with Jim McGuckin, had a fine victory by 6 and 5, the two Davids, Pascoe and Brown, won by 4 and 3, and Tim Smith, with Iain Stewart, gained a consolation half-point.
The nine-hole fun event on January 28 saw first place go to Chris Hanham, Lorraine Taylor and Paula Travis with 37 points.
In second place, on 31, were Jenny Hawkins, Carolyne Warren and Wendy Walker.
Last Wednesday saw the nine-hole pairs event take place with Wendy Walker and Jane Banks finishing top of the pile on 21.
Two teams finished on 20 points, but taking second place on countback were Anne Perry and Janet Waplington, ahead of Gwen Cavill and Anne Elliott-Rose in third.
