GREEN-FINGERED students at Chilton Trinity are aiming to grow Britain’s biggest pumpkins for Hallowe’en.
Year 9 student Joshua Thake along with Natasha Hucker, aged 14, and Oliver Garner, 14, are trying out a special formula found on the internet that they hope will expand the pumpkins to giant size.
The budding horticulturalists have also helped to design bird-feeders and other new inventions at the school.
The previous record British pumpkin weighed in at 1,504lb, which was 200lb short of the world record, and has a circumference of about 17ft.
The students will be able to keep an eye on the progress of their potential prize pumpkin in the school’s own outside garden area.
Mikiala Jones, SEN teacher, said: “They are brilliant students and creative self-starters in the whole area of horticulture.
“We have high hopes for these pumpkins to be enormous, and who knows, they could even break the British record.”
