FORMER Bridgwater United Women captain Keely Banfield has made the move to professional football after signing for Aberdeen Women.

She was one of three signings Aberdeen made last week to bolster the squad ahead of the resumption of their season on Sunday.

Banfield has been playing for Bridgwater United in either youth or senior football for the last four years and this season and last was first team captain.

Aberdeen manager Clint Lancaster said: "Keeley is a fantastic defensive player who has excellent technical ability and despite her young age has captained her club down in England. She has a great work rate and is someone who will be a welcome addition to our midfield."

She has been studying at Bridgwater & Taunton College and will continue her degree remotely with University Centre Somerset.

A spokesperson from Bridgwater & Taunton College said: "One of our Women’s Footballers, Keeley Banfield, has started her professional playing career with Aberdeen Women.

"Keeley has been part of our Women’s Football programme for the last 4 years and will be finishing her degree remotely with UC Somerset. Best of luck Keeley!"
