A MAN who assaulted a customer in a popular Bridgwater pub, leaving him hospitalised for two days, has been jailed.

Andy Milburn, 40, of St John Street, Bridgwater, attacked his victim on the afternoon of June 8 in the Three Lions pub toilets following an altercation.

He hit his 42-year-old victim three times, causing multiple fractures to his face.

Milburn was jailed for 12 months at Taunton Crown Court last week.

Prosecuting, Janice Eagles told the court: “The victim was in his local pub drinking alone and watching the horse racing on TV.

“He left the pub to go and put some bets on and was intending on leaving after the 4.30pm race.”

The court then heard how the victim tried to speak to Milburn inside the pub toilets, but Milburn refused and then told him to leave.

The victim said he wasn’t leaving and Milburn, who has previously served a jail term for another offence, attacked him three times before leaving him unconscious on the floor.

The victim was later taken to hospital after a taxi firm notified an ambulance.

Defending, Patrick Mason added: “Milburn is somebody who has led a quiet life for the last three years.

“He’s suffered from depression and his life has become quiet with him spending a lot of time at the pub. He finds life rather difficult.”

Sentencing Milburn, Recorder Andrew Maitland said he had no reason to suspend the sentence and added: “You appeared to follow him in to the toilets, struck him three times and then explained what you had done to a person you were with.”
