A YOUNG mum had to be forcibly removed from a Bridgwater fast food outlet after racially abusing a staff member, a court heard.

Carly Patricia May Beardsmore, 19, called Kenan Ceylan, of Yummies Kebab and Pizza, racially derogatory names and swore at him as he was closing the shop.

Sedgemoor Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday how Beardsmore had been with two other people when they entered the eatery – and were asked to leave.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Rhodes said Beardsmore then called Mr Ceylan a “foreigner,” started swearing at him and said she did not understand what he was saying. She also called him a racially offensive name, at around midnight, on November 17.

Sedgemoor Magistrates’ Court heard Mr Ceylan touched one girl on the arm to show her the door and Beardsmore later alleged he had assaulted her friend.

Beardsmore denied she was racist, but an officer overheard the unemployed mum-of-one make a racist remark.

Paul Light, defending Beardsmore, said: “Her version of events is largely about what happened before the police arrived. She said her friend was assaulted.”

Mr Light added his client said she had been racially insulted by Mr Ceylan and it was “fighting back”.

Beardsmore, who gave her address in court as Parkway, pleaded guilty to the charge of racially aggravated harassment.

She was given an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs – to which she gave a loud sigh of relief.
