A CEREMONY was held on Friday to celebrate the start of work on three new Bridgwater schools.
The new Chilton Trinity Technology College, Robert Blake Science College and Elmwood School buildings should open in October 2012.
Jaqui Tobin, head teacher of Elmwood School, added: “It seems we have been planning for ever and now it's amazingly fabulous to actually be starting on this next phase of our journey in providing 21st Century spaces.”
Robert Blake head teacher Ann Winter said while everybody involved was “very excited” work had now begun, there was also huge support for the three other schools due to be rebuilt under Building Schools for the Future - East Bridgwater Community School, Penrose School and Haygrove School - with a decision on funding expected in December.
Pat Hollinghurst, head teacher of Chilton Trinity, added: “We have worked hard as a group of six schools to realise this ambitious project to build new schools for all young people in Bridgwater.”
