A WOOLAVINGTON mother who has three children with cystic fibrosis has inspired a local group to raise money and awareness of the life-threatening disease.

Charlotte Head has four children, three of whom - daughters Saskia, 11, Tia Rose, four, and son Gareth, ten - require round the clock care. Only Charlotte's other daughter, Jodi, is not affected.

The youngsters have to undergo daily physio sessions to prevent mucus building up on their lungs and face a daily cocktail of different medicines.

Charlotte, of Sedgemoor Way, said: “My partner and I are both carriers of the disease, and Jodie is also a carrier.

“My son has to go to hospital every three months and my youngest daughter may have to go as well.

“My partner works full-time so I have to care for them 24/7 on my own - it's really hard but I would do anything for my children.”

Her struggle has moved Theresa Marshall from the 37 Club in Puriton - where Charlotte regularly enjoys evenings out with her children - to campaign for a cure.

The group has raised £1,000 by putting on a recent music event with half the money donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Theresa said: “Charlotte is constantly in and out of hospital with her children and they have a very short life span so we decided to try and help all those in that sad situation.”

She also thanked all the businesses and other organisations which donated prizes towards the event, and everyone who helped out.

Charlotte added: “It's just brilliant to know I have got friends like this around who are willing to help.”
