TWO Bridgwater College students fly out to India today for a once-in-a-lifetime sporting opportunity after the Commonwealth Games.

Joseph Seal and Nadine Brelstaff, both aged 18, will spend ten days in Delhi and Jaipur as part of a group of British sporting ambassadors.

They are part of an 11-strong British Colleges Sport party who will be setting up sports coaching sessions for Indian school pupils aged from seven to 16 years.

As well as creating a football development programme for schools and colleges in Ajmer, the group will lead a coach networking day in Jaipur.

They will also take part in cultural Indian games such as kho kho - similar to the playground game of 'tag' - and kabaddi, a form of recreational combat training between two teams of seven.

After an intensive programme, Joseph and Nadine became British Colleges Sport national ambassadors, hoping to inspire other young people to become involved in sport.

Joseph Seal said: “This is a once in a lifetime type of experience which will help us develop a cultural awareness and appreciation of India as a country so we can support the inclusion of ethnic minority populations in sport in the UK.

“We want to tap into Indian expertise to support the development of minority sports, such as handball, in UK colleges.”

Nadine Brelstaff added: “Hopefully, we can leave a lasting legacy for development of sport in India by sharing UK expertise to support the development of sport in Indian schools, colleges, and universities.”
