JACQUI Tobin, head teacher of Elmwood Special School, said she felt "a mix of disappointment and frustration" upon hearing the Government was shelving plans for her new school.

She said: "A huge amount of work has taken place to get us to this stage.

“We lack specialist areas for subjects like art and textiles; we lack classroom space and we don't have any inside PE facility.

“Our school was built in 1957 for students with moderate learning difficulties.

“The students we have now have a much greater variety of needs, some of which are far more complex.”
