CRAIG Laird has left his position as joint-manager of Bridgwater Town to take the reins of Weston FC.

Laird, who guided Town to a third-place league finish and were just minutes away from promotion, had been in charge of first team affairs at Fairfax Park for four years.

Town chairman Alan Hurford told the Mercury: "We are disappointed but we wish Craig well.

"It's not the first time in the world that a manager has moved on and it won't be the last.

"I'm not surprised he has moved on because if you are successful, people will be looking at you.

"Tiverton were interested in him a couple of years ago but we held that off."

When asked where this leaves the Bridgwater Town management situation, he added: "I haven't thought about it much but we will sit back and take judgment to decide where we go.

"We probably have a couple of candidates in the running.

"We are disappointed to be losing him but wish him all the best."
