A GENERAL Election candidate for the Bridgwater seat walked out of a public debate last night, after refusing to share a platform with the British National Party.
Green Party candidate Charles Graham walked out of the event, organised by the Mothers Union at the Holy Trinity Church in Hamp, Bridgwater, in protest at the BNP candidate Donna Treanor being invited to take part.
Neither Mr Graham nor Ms Treanor have so far been available for comment today, although it is understood Ms Treanor has been leafleting in parts of the town.
Labour's candidate Kathy Pearce said she had committed to other plans, but would not have shared a platform with the BNP.
Tory Ian Liddell-Grainger said he had been out campaigning last night.
Independent candidate Bob Cudlipp did not attend the event.
After Mr Graham walked out, the LibDem's Theo Butt Philip, the UK Independence Party's Peter Hollings and Miss Treanor stayed to answer questions.
Mr Butt Philip said he was disappointed more candidates had not attended to stand up to the BNP.
Mr Hollings said: “I think the meeting went really well and I was able to make some good comments.
