RAG day at Bridgwater College saw an array of characters turn out for a special day of fun in the name of charity yesterday.

Bugs, soldiers, smurfs and Mexicans arrived at the College gates among hundreds of other students dressed to impress.

The students brought good-spirited fun to the town, and raised over £9,000 for War Child, WaterAid and the Miscarriage Association.

The day included a world record attempt at the Macarena, bouncy-castle competitions and dance routines. Even principle Fiona McMillan joined in as a judge for the fashion show. Students headed into town to sing festive songs and carols in the Angel Place Shopping Centre with passers-by digging deep for the good causes.

Carole Melia, senior tutor at the college, said: “Everyone has worked really hard to raise a record breaking amount for this year’s chosen charities and all the staff would like to say a huge thank you to all the students for their good spirits and to the people who were so generous with their donations.”

Bridgwater police also praised the students for their good behaviour throughout the day.
