POLICE have confirmed all roads have reopened following the gas leak which sparked dramatic scenes in Bridgwater this morning.

Bristol Road, Rider's End, and The Drove were closed after a methane gas cylinder on an HGV tanker sprung a leak at about 7.55am on Quantock Terrace.

Fire crews at the scene vented the cylinder into the air, and nearby residents have been advised to stay in their homes and keep thier windows firmly closed.

Police said there was no immediate threat of an explosion and no one was hurt.

The environmental health department at Sedgemoor District Council and Wessex Water have been informed.
