THREE health-conscious volunteers are bringing good food to people in Hamp, Bridgwater, thanks to a new food co-op.

Sarah Francis, Julie Raven and Lorna King run the project, offering organic vegetables and seasonal local fruit, along with eggs and preserves from the heart of the community at Hamp Information and Advice Centre.

Sarah said: “The co-op is a positive thing for the community, especially for the elderly and people who don't have cars as it is so far to the nearest supermarket.

“The fresh food we have here is good quality and comes at a good price so is an easier way for people to eat well.”

Although it started small, interest in the co-op is increasing every week, with all parts of the community placing orders from single parents to the elderly.

Sarah added: “We get our fruit and preserves from the Cornhill greengrocers and the veg and eggs from a place in Taunton, so it is really environmentally-friendly too.”

The centre is open every Friday from 11.30am to 1.30 pm, where people order their food ready for collection the next week.
