A WELL-KNOWN Bridgwater singer and his wife will be walking down the aisle this Saturday to renew their vows after 50 blissful years of marriage.

Graham Larson, known in Bridgwater as singer Larry Boyd, will be renewing his vows with wife Hazel at St Mary's Church followed by a reception at the Royal British Legion on Hallowe'en - 50 years to the day they originally said “I do”.

Larry was just starting more than 27 years in the carnival concerts when a 14-year-old Hazel first clapped eyes on him. He went on to sing the number ones of the year at the event for decades, and began performing at weddings and sang all across Bridgwater.

Larry worked closely with Bill Young - now the president of Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society - and singer and children's TV star Carol Lee Scott. Such was his popularity he even supported Billy Fury when the icon came to town.

The couple have three children - Tina, Steven and Shaun - nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a great-grandson on the way.

Larry said: “If you want to last 50 years you have to be honest with each other, give and take and make each other laugh. It's all about trust and laughter.”

Hazel added: “You have got to have laughs and live life to the full - love is stronger than anything that has ever been invented. There really is nothing like your first love.”
