STORYBOOK characters came to life at Bridgwater College Children's Centre, when youngsters dressed up as their favourite nursery rhyme heroes.

Staff even threw on costumes for the event, held to celebrate National Bookstart Day, as activities kept children busy.

Norma Frood, parent and family liaison officer at the children's centre, said: “The sharing of nursery rhymes is an ideal way to build a special bond between parent and child and plays an important part in helping children's language development.

“Nursery rhymes help children to enjoy playing with language and to learn about its patterns and rhythms.”

Bridgwater College Children's Centre is open to children of students and the general public for children from four months to five years.
