A NEW event will be taking over Bridgwater town centre next weekend thanks to a grant from Somerset Council’s Town Deal investment from the UK Government.

Bridgwater's first ever 'Super Saturday' will bring live circus, dance, theatre, and music to the Cornhill, High Street, Fore Street, and St Mary's Church from 12pm until 5pm on Saturday, July 20.

The event, inspired by the already popular Yeovil Super Saturday, was awarded a £20,000 grant to fund the day of fun.

With their grant, they plan to have three stages, eight performance companies and plenty more in the way of entertainment.

Sarah Setter from the Lost Lady Society, creators of Super Saturday, said: “We are extremely grateful for Bridgwater Town Deal/Council for creating this opportunity for so many local cultural professionals across the county and artistic genres. Fingers crossed for the weather!”

R Lambert, co-chair of the grant decision panel, said: “The panel felt it was important that funding brought exciting large-scale events to Bridgwater.

"We saw some exceptional applications that will bring residents / visitors into town and much needed footfall.”
