TRAVELLERS remain at a park in Bridgwater despite efforts from the council and police to move them on from the site.
Somerset Council revealed on Wednesday, July 2, that it was being supported by Avon and Somerset Police to evict an 'unauthorised encampment' at Victoria Park.
However, five days later (Monday, July 8), the encampment remains in the public space.
In an updated statement, a Somerset Council spokesperson said: "Our team have visited the site and are following the normal legal process.
"If residents are concerned about anti-social behaviour they should call police on 101."
The travellers first arrived on Tuesday, July 2, and locals report several caravans at the park, as well as horses and dogs, and discarded litter.
In a statement issued last week, a police spokesperson said: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment which arrived in Victoria Park, in Bridgwater, yesterday (Tuesday, July 2).
"A number of vehicles accessed the park at around 12:15pm.
"Officers have visited the site and engaged with individuals there as well as the local community.
"We are in close contact with the local authority and have been supporting them with the management of the site, as trespassing is a civil matter."
