CONSTRUCTION for a recently approved expansion to an employment development in Bridgwater is set to commence later this year.

Bridgwater-based business SJV Construction has announced via Facebook that they will complete the large industrial units on the site, with work scheduled to begin in September.

The site, made up of three units and associated infrastructure, will be located on land west of the A38 northbound (Bristol Road), right next to the River Parrett and directly opposite the Ibis Hotel just south of Dunball.

Three industrial buildings will be constructed on the site, with footprints of 12,000, 10,000, and 6,000 square feet respectively.

A spokesperson for SJV Construction said: "Following the completion the end of last year of the new industrial unit in Bridgwater which is now up and running as the new Somerset Willow Factory, we have now been asked to complete three more new units.

"We will be starting the masonry packages on these three new units in September and look forward to keeping you updated with their progress."

The plans were approved by Somerset Council on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

At the time of the initial application, a 'prospective user' had already been allocated to take over unit 1, in which the internal layout has been designed to accommodate '2,000 square feet of support and office space with adjacent warehouse/storage space and a further 2,000 square feet of office space at first floor.'

The site will be accessed from the junction on the A38 Northbound (Bristol Road) which currently serves other nearby buildings to the site.

It will be located in close proximity to the Dunball Roundabout, which Somerset Council stated would be converted into a new through-a-bout this year.

However, a contractor to carry out this work remains to be secured by the council, despite a scheduled start date of summer 2024.
