A CAFE which opened just over two weeks ago in Bridgwater has been burgled.

Dodos, found on Wye Avenue just off Westonzoyland Road, fell victim to an overnight robbery on the evening of Wednesday, May 1.

Vandals removed the trim around the new cafe's front door window in order to dislodge it and get inside to take several items, including the cash register.

Chloe Rowlinson, who owns the café, said: “We were looking at each other like 'why are all the cupboards open? Why is the door open?'

“Then we realised the cash register had gone, and there was no window.”

Chloe told the Mercury that she is 'not going to give up' in response to the incident.

“I don’t know why they’d target a new business," she said.

“It is my livelihood. I’m not going to give up.”

“I am going to continue to trade and continue to do everything I can to make this a success.”

Dodos remains open despite the incident as Chloe remains determined to serve the people of Bridgwater.

In a statement, she added: "I would just like to thank everyone that made a special effort to come and see me today, to check I was alright and to see if there was anything they could do.

"You’ve all been so kind and my promise to you is, I won’t give up.

"I will continue to trade as normal bringing you all your coffee, cakes and more, long into the future."
