A NEW festival set to take place in Bridgwater later this month has something for all the family to enjoy.

SomerFest, set up by co-organisers Dan and Sarah Smith, will be held at Bridgwater & Albion RFC on Saturday, May 25.

The Wurzels will play live music on the day, along with performances from other local musicians including The Phogues, The Additions, Shoot the Moon, and Recovering Satellites.

Dan and Sarah have both worked with The Wurzels before - and even shared kebabs together -  with the group keen to return to Bridgwater after performing at sister event SomerRock a few years back.

Although this year is the new festival's first innings, it has been in the works for quite some time, and has been called off twice due to Covid-19 lockdowns.

“Families are welcome, everyone’s welcome - it’s a family-run event," Dan said.

The rugby club will be adorned with food vans, fairground rides, beer and cider tents, and even a 21-foot video wall which will broadcast the FA Cup final before SomerFest gets underway.

Tickets for the day can be purchased through SeeTickets, with adult general admission costing £22, and under 16s costing £11.

Tickets can be purchased as e-tickets, delivered to your address, or collected from a variety of locations across Bridgwater, including Blake Hall.

Dan and Sarah are currently in talks with Hawkstone to serve Jeremy Clarkson's farm-brewed lager at the festival.

“We’re confident on our bar stocking Clarkson's beer," Dan said.

SomerFest is also currently in the process of having its own signature lager brewed especially for the event.

Dan explained that the bespoke beer opportunity was presented to him by his friend Tim, who runs Seven Day Supply brewery, near Woolavington.

"He’s going above and beyond to help us out," Dan said.

“I’ve always wanted to do it, 30 years of being in this trade, I've never come about having this happen.

"It's four percent, lovely lager, we’re so pleased with it," Sarah said.

The pair also thanked Jan Rich, from Highbridge-based Rich's Cider, for her support.

"She’s very been helpful to us," Dan said.

"We’re going to be having a beer tent solely selling her products.”
